Bruce Speca's influence extends beyond American shores. As executive vice president of investment management services (IMS) for John Hancock Financial, the Pioneer Investments and New England Funds alum is in charge of Manulife/John Hancock's investment platforms in the U.S., Canada and Asia. The portfolios that IMS oversees have nearly $150 billion in assets and are managed by some of the biggest asset managers in the world.
Speca's duties also include overseeing John Hancock's lifestyle and lifecycle portfolios, which collectively have more than $50 billion of assets, and leading product development and marketing strategies for IMS.
Speca joined Manulife in 2003 after a stint at Pioneer. He previously ran MutualFunds.com, a startup whose investors included former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Nvest Companies (the site's domain name was later purchased by Mutuals.com CEO Rick Sapio). Earlier, he was president and CEO of New England Funds, which later changed its name to Nvest Funds, now known as Natixis Funds.
