Frank Coates parlayed his distribution experience from firms such as Dreyfus, Strong Funds and The Boston Company into Coates Analytics, which provides asset managers
with tools to beef up distribution. Coates started the Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania-based firm in 2004 and sold it to PNC Financial Services Group in December 2007. He remains the company's president and CEO.
Coates Analytics' offerings include the
Distribution Management System, a Web-based solution that enables users to access data and analytical tools, and
Intelligent Dashboard, a Web-based operations and governance tool.
Last fall, Coates struck a deal with software firm SalesPage Technologies, under which SalesPage clients get direct access to Coates' office-level data intelligence in their SalesPage Financial client relationship managment application.
At the time of its sale to PNC, Coates Analytics served seven of the 10 largest broker-dealers, and provided market data, including distribution information, to more than 40 asset management firms.
Prior to starting his own firm, Coates launched SMA businesses at Strong Funds in 2001 and Dreyfus in 1997. He earlier worked in sales at Pitcairn Financial Group and served as a sales officer at The Boston Company. Before joining the investment management industry, Coates was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
