Fundsters interested in niche ETFs and ETNs may want to take a look at the Wednesday Fund Track column. The Wall Street Journal's John Spence reports exchange-traded funds and notes that track oil and other commodities "have been slammed," particularly thanks to the plunging price of oil. Several products were specifically mentioned among those having trouble, including: the iPAth S&P GSCI Crude Oil Total Return Index ETN, MacroShares $100 Oil Up, PowerShares DB Commodity Double Long ETN, PowerShares DB Crude Oil Double Long ETN, PowerSharers DB Crude Oil Long ETN, PowerShares DB Oil Fund, ProShares Ultra Basic Materials, ProShares Ultra Oil & Gas, U.S. Gasoline Fund, U.S. Oil Fund and U.S. 12 Month Oil Fund.
