Diversified stock funds had a rough first quarter and value funds did not fare much better, Jonathan Burton

. According to Lipper
data, diversified funds lost an average of 10.1 percent in Q1, value funds lost between 9.5 and 7.1 percent depending on their cap weight. A little performance surprise for the quarter were real estate funds, which lost only 1.3 percent despite all the turmoil in that market.
