XTF Names New CEO

News summary by MFWire's editors

XTF Global Asset Management has hired Melvin (Mel) Herman as chief executive officer. He replaces Michael Woods, who left the company to "pursue other opportunities," according to a company spokesman. Herman comes to XTF from broker-dealer Brean Murray & Co., where he was executive vice president and chief operating officer. He previously spent 23 years at Oppenheimer & Co.

XTF Global Asset Management, LLC, which specializes in actively managed asset allocation portfolios composed of exchange traded funds (ETFs), has named Melvin (Mel) S. Herman as its chief executive officer. Mr. Herman, brings more than 30 years of experience in financial services, including 23 years with Oppenheimer & Co. He will spearhead XTF’s continued growth in asset gathering, new product delivery and strategic partnerships.

“Mel is absolutely the right person to lead our company forward,” said Sander Gerber, XTF’s chairman and founder. “He has a demonstrated ability to work closely with clients, investors and third parties, manage strategic initiatives and grow businesses. I’m confident that under his leadership, XTF will continue to enhance its unique market and leadership position, highlighted by its ETF ratings service, its lifecycle and lifestyle funds of ETFs and innovative products, such as its country and sector rotation portfolios.”

Mr. Gerber continued: “Given the strength of our investment committee and my familiarity with XTF’s investment process and thesis, Mel will integrate seamlessly into our successful structure. Our performance continues to be strong as investors learn that the transparency and low-expenses associated with ETFs provides them with a better way to invest.”

“XTF is an innovative company in an exciting industry, and leading its development is something that I am looking forward to,” Mr. Herman said. “The industry has grown in ways that we couldn’t have foreseen just a few years ago, such as using ETFs exclusively to build fully-diversified risk based and target date portfolios, as well as using ETFs in retirement planning and institutional products. XTF has a tremendous opportunity to grow and lead the industry, and I’m thrilled to be an integral part of that.”

From 1977 to 1999, Mr. Herman served as managing director/treasurer, Chairman of the Management Committee, and member of both the Credit and Operating Committees at Oppenheimer & Co., Inc. While there, Mr. Herman secured the capital and built the financial structure that was instrumental in the doubling of the firm’s revenues. He was responsible for all of the firm’s domestic and international financing, securing short- and long-term capital to support the group’s business, managing the allocation of regulatory capital and liquidity to various production areas, and risk management.

Most recently, Mr. Herman was executive vice president and COO of Brean Murray & Co., Inc., a full service broker-dealer, and BMI Capital, its investment advisor/asset management subsidiary. He managed the daily administrative, sales and operational functions of the Sales and Trading, Research, Accounting, Operations, Legal and Compliance, Information Technology, and Human Resources divisions.

Mr. Herman is a Certified Public Account (CPA) in New York State and a member of the American Institute of CPAs and New York Society of CPAs. He received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Brooklyn College and holds a Master of Science in Taxation from Pace University in New York.
