On May 29, 2019, Piper Jaffray unveiled a pair of deals to exit the asset management business by selling Advisory Research. Tortoise Capital Advisors has agreed to buy Advisory Research's midstream energy asset management business, while management at Advisory Research has signed a letter of intent to buy up the rest of the firm.
Advisory Research, Inc. (Advisory Research or ARI for short) founded in 1974 as a investment advisor with a value focus. In December 2009, Minneapolis-based Piper Jaffray, an investment bank, unveiled a deal to buy Advisory Research, and the investment bank closed on the deal in March 2010.
