Sam Stewart founded Wasatch Advisors in 1975 to invest in growth investing in small companies. (The name comes from the nearby Wasatch mountains.) In 2019, Wasatch Advisors rebranded as Wasatch Global Investors.
Wasatch uses a fundamental, bottom-up research method that focuses on long-term growth and finding market inefficiencies. It has expanded its investment process to include micro cap, value, international, and mid-large cap funds.
In 1986 Wasatch launched its first two mutual funds, Small Cap Growth and Core Growth. Its micro cap fund opened nearly a decade later.
In 2009, Stewart sold back his Wasatch shares as part of the firm's ownership recycling structure. He retired from Wasatch in 2018, joining two of his in a nearby startup, Seven Canyons Advisors.
1st Source AcquisitionWasatch adopted the 1st Source Funds in 2008. It rebranded the funds as the Wasatch Large Cap Value, Wasatch Long/Short, and 1st Source Income funds.
