On December 19, 2016, founder John Calamos and CEO John Koudounis unveiled a plan to take Calamos Asset Management private.
John P. Calamos, Sr. launched Calamos Investments in 1977.The firm was among the first to apply the Black-Scholestheory, which weighs the stock price, strike price, expiration date, risk-free return and the standard deviation of a stock to convertibles.
The company made its foray into the mutual fund business in 1983 withthe launch of the Convertible Fund.
Calamos became a publicly traded company in October 2004, raising $360 million from its IPO. Calamos' stock is traded on the Nasdaqunder the ticker "CLMS."
FounderJohn P. Calamos, Sr. continues to serve as chairman, chief executive officer and chief investment officer, since its launch in 1977. He has authored two books: Investing in Convertible Securities: Your Complete Guide to the Risks and Rewards, and Convertible Securities: the Latest Instruments, PortfolioStrategies, and Valuation Analysis. He ranked among Forbes' annual list of the 400richest Americans in 2007, placing no. 261 with a fortune worth $1.9 billion.
As of March 31, 2017, the firm has a total of $20.451 billion AUM.
