Schroder Investment Management North America is an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Schroders plc, a London-based, publicly-traded multinational asset manager whose roots date back to 1804. Its invests, actively, in domestic, emerging market, and international equities and fixed income, and it also offers alternatives and multi-asset products.
The Schroders team focuses on "independent fundamental research and insights" and aims for "intelligently challenging global market practices in anticipation of what's ahead." The firm also has a big push around ESG or SRI investing.
In the U.S., Schroders started building out its intermediary distribution business in 2006. Yet in June 2016, Schroders unveiled a deal for Hartford Funds [profile] to adopt 10 of its U.S. mutual funds. Schroders will stay on for subadvisor for those 10 funds, and it will keep its other six mutual funds as institutional-only.
On December 17, 2012, Schroders unveiled a deal to buy STW Fixed Income Management, [profile], an $11.9-billion fixed income shop. Schroders expects the deal, slated to close in the first quarter of 2013, to boost its U.S. fixed income AUM by 50 percent.
