Business Week reports that The U.S. securities industry's 2006 pretax profits nearly doubled from a year earlier, hitting their highest level ever.
2006 pretax net income for the industry rose 88 percent to $33.1 billion from $17.1 billion in 2005. The previous record of $31.6 billion was set in 2000.
