In "Market timers Refuse to Heed Warnings on Retirement Money", Pui-Wing Tam writes that 401(k) participants are trying to time the market despite advice given to the contrary. The author quotes a Hewitt Associates report that trading among this group jumped 100% following last week's dip in the markets. According to the article, trading activity doubled among plan participants in the July 27-31 period when the market dropped more than 100 points. Assets were moved into bonds and money-markets during a bear day and back into stocks on a bull day.
