Legg Mason's head honcho, Raymond "Chip" Mason, will not appear as scheduled at an asset management conference sponsored by Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, reports Reuters.

Mason was scheduled to appear at the Wednesday conference, but the move could be to avoid questions related to the rumors of a possible deal with Citigroup's asset management units.
