Brad Hilsabeck is back in the asset management business, and this time he's advising a midwestern, private equity-backed shop that specializes in "essential assets investing."

Hilsabeck recently joined the board of Leawood, Kansas-based
Tortoise [
profile] as independent director, CEO
Kevin Birzer confirmed last Wednesday. The move comes two and a half years after Hilsabeck
left GMO, where he served as CEO, and less than two weeks after Birzer
confirmed Tortoise's latest acquisition.
Birzer praises
Hilsabeck (who is based in the San Francisco Bay area) for his "wealth of experience having led a multi-asset class investment firm where they served sophisticated institutional clients."
An alumnus of Westminster College, Hilsabeck has spent 32 years in the investment management business in various business development, client relations, client service, and marketing roles. Most recently, he spent. 14 years at GMO (including as a partner and board member). He also worked at SSgA, Putnam, and Aetna.
