Mister Market seems to like what President
Donald Trump will mean for asset managers.
| Greg Johnson Franklin Templeton Chief Executive Officer | |
Out of 20 publicly traded asset managers in the mutual fund business, 19 saw their shares rise from market open on Tuesday (election day) to market close on Wednesday. Stocks overall have done well so far (
after some initial panic and a swing of
more than 1,100 points), with the Dow up 1.8 percent and the S&P 1.48 percent over those two days. So it's no surprise that most asset managers (17 out of these 20) are up even more than the markets (given that asset managers' revenue is driven by assets, and assets go up and down with the markets). The 20 firms' share prices averaged a 4.32-percent jump.
Leading the Trump victory asset manager rally by a wide margin is
Franklin Templeton [
profile], up 11.91 percent in two days. Other big gainers are:
WisdomTree [
profile], up 7.86 percent;
U.S. Global Investors [
profile], up 6.84 percent;
T. Rowe Price [
profile], up 6.25 percent; and
Gamco [
profile], up 6.01 percent.
On the flip side,
Diamond Hill [
profile] has seen its shares slip 0.56 percent. And shares in
BlackRock [
profile] (up 1.76 percent) and
Artisan [
profile] (up 0.78 percent) did not rebound as fast as the Dow did.
