Where Is the ETF Industry Headed?

ETF.com profiles ten members of the leadership team for WE (Women in ETFs). The two-year-old, global organization now has more than 1,900 members. The leaders profiled include: Susan Ciccarone, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Emerging Global Advisors [profile] and treasurer of WE; Deborah Fuhr, partner and co-founder of ETFGI and external organization liaison for WE; Sharon French, head of beta solutions at OpFunds [profile] and general board member at WE; Joanne Hill, head of institutional investment strategy at ProShares [profile] and co-president of WE; Jill Mavro, senior managing director at SSgA and co-president of WE; Michelle Mikos, director of retail business development at Invesco PowerShares [profile] and secretary for WE; Kathleen Moriarty, partner at Kayle Scholer and general board member at WE; Laura Morrison, senior vice president and head of exchange-traded products at Bats Global Markets and external organization liaison at WE; Susan Thompson, president and CEO of Thompson Peak Advisory and general board member at WE; and Linda Zhang, senior PM and head of research at Schwab's Windhaven Investment Management and vice president of WE.

And the FT highlights the increasing specialization of ETF product development, with "increasingly esoteric, niche products for investors to bet on micro themes." Insiders who weighed in for the Financial Times piece include: Reggie Browne, the head of ETF trading at Cantor Fitzgerald who is known as "The Godfather of ETFs"; Ben Johnson, the head of ETF research at Morningstar; and Lee Kranefuss, the founder and chairman of ETF strategist 55 Capital Partners who founded iShares back in the day.
