The folks at
Fidelity [
profile] had more cause than just New Year's to break out the champagne and celebrate last week. The best-performing stock picker of 2015, at least when it comes to big U.S. equity mutual funds, PMs for the Boston Behemoth.

Matthew Winkler of
Bloomberg profiles Fido's
Deena Friedman, PM of the five-star, $1.9-billion
Fidelity Select Retailing Portfolio. Per the wire service's data, out of the 563 active U.S. equity mutual funds with at least $1 billion in AUM, Fidelity Select Retailing had the best returns last year. The fund returned more than 18.5 percent.
And Friedman's not the only U.S. equity stock picker at Fidelity that had a great year. The Boston Behemoth also landed the number two and three spots on
Bloomberg's list, with
Fidelity Select IT Services and
Fidelity Select Biotechnology (each up more than 14 percent).
Of the top ten funds in the list, funds from
T. Rowe Price [
profile] had two spots (4th and 10th). One fund each from
Alger [
profile] (5th),
TCW [
profile] (6th),
Hartford [
profile] (7th),
Janus [
profile] (8th) and
Morgan Stanley [
profile] (9th) also made it into the list, each with returns of at least 11.8 percent.
The
Bloomberg piece offers insight into Friedman's background (she's an ex-Goldman Sachs HR person who also joined Fidelity 10 years ago), her investment style (think Graham-Dodd and Buffett), and her big picks (yes, Amazon and Netflix are among them).
