A Philly Firm Lures an Oppenheimer Sales Honcho

A Philly firm is looking to tap more aggressively into the high-net worth family niche.

Glenmede [profile], a $22 billion AUM manager which markets 16 funds has hired John Carson to serve as a business development manager in the firm's Philadelphia office.

In this role, the 25-year industry veteran will focus on courting high-net-worth individuals and families, family offices, endowments, foundations and institutional entities on a national scale.

Previously, Carson was the managing director of the middle market institutional sales group at Oppenheimer & Co.. Before that, he spent more than a decade with BofA Merrill Lynch, most recently as managing director of institutional equity sales.

Glenmede Appoints John G. Carson Business Development Manager

Industry Veteran Brings More Than 25 Years of Expertise to Glenmede

  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – April 3, 2013 – Glenmede, a privately-held and independent investment and wealth management firm, today announced the hiring of John G. Carson as a Business Development Manager in the Philadelphia office, reporting to Chip Wilson, Executive Director of Relationship Management. In this role, Mr. Carson will focus on initiating and broadening relationships with high-net-worth individuals and families, family offices, endowments, foundations and institutional entities on a national scale.

  “John has tremendous experience and a demonstrated track record. Importantly, his character and integrity are consistent with Glenmede’s emphasis on its culture,”said Mr. Wilson.

  With more than two decades of experience in financial services, Mr. Carson joined Glenmede from Oppenheimer & Co. where he was a Managing Director of the middle market institutional sales group. Previously, he spent more than a decade with Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, most recently as Managing Director of Institutional Equity Sales. Mr. Cason was recognized as the firm’s top regional institutional equity salesperson in 2005, 2007, 2009 and again in 2010.

  Mr. Carson held a similar position for Wertheim Schroder / Schroders PLC in Philadelphia for a decade as well, prior to which he worked for Drexel Burnham Lambert in New York. Mr. Carson received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University Notre Dame.
