Artisan Partners [see profile], the IPO-bound, Milwaukee-headquartered investment manager, is making a push into the Australian market with the help of a Wellington Management alum. Artisan tapped Grey Pine Advisory Pty Ltd to help pitch its services in Australia and New Zealand.

"Australia ranks as the fourth largest investment market in the world by funds under management," noted Dean Patenaude, Artisan's global distribution chief, in a press release. "The size of that opportunity is attractive to us and the growth profile and highly institutional makeup of the market align well with our business model."

Grey Pine's owner, Whitney Drayton, worked as a director of institutional business development at Wellington Management before starting Grey Pine in the latter part of 2010.

Artisan Partners Targets Australian Market

MILWAUKEE, Oct 23, 2011 -- Artisan Partners announced that it has entered into a contract with Grey Pine Advisory Pty Ltd to provide marketing services in Australia and New Zealand. Grey Pine is solely owned and operated by Whitney Drayton. Through Grey Pine, Whitney will focus solely on executing Artisan's distribution strategy and leading the firm's local business development efforts in its global and emerging markets strategies.

Prior to starting Grey Pine in the latter half of 2010, Whitney was Director, Institutional Business Development with Wellington Management. In his role with Wellington, Whitney managed business development for the company's global equity and global fixed income assets across Australia and New Zealand.
