Roger Ferguson TIAA-CREF President and CEO

TIAA-CREF [see profile] is not the same as other mutual fund firms. For decades it slowly built its reputation and AUM focusing on the long term and appealing to the intellect rather than passion. That DNA served the firm well when it came to guiding professors and others in education to their retirement.

Roger Ferguson joined TIAA-CREF in 2008, bringing a legal background and connections as a Washington insider. He has been vice chairman of the Fed's Board of Governors and a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee, and he is a personal friend of President Barack Obama.

He was also chairman of Swiss Re America Holding Corporation where he headed the insurer's financial services business and is a former partner at McKinsey & Company.
