REIT mutual fund specialist Cohen & Steers [see profile] hired Martha Shapiro as senior vice president and director of marketing communications. Shapiro started on Monday and reports to senior vice president and director of global marketing Tony Ialeggio.

Shapiro's post is new, Ialeggio told The MFWire.com.

Shapiro will lead the creation of marketing and educational materials for the New York City-based firm and and will also oversee its Web site's content.

Previously, Shapiro worked as director of marketing services at Morgan Stanley Investment Management. She earlier served as director of marketing communications at OppenheimerFunds.
