Invesco Strengthens Its Institutional Team

Invesco continues its efforts to broaden marketing capabilities in the institutional space. On Monday the Atlanta-based fund firm unveiled the appointment of Thomas J. Hughes as managing director of the institutional sales and client services team. An Invesco representative confirmed that the institutional sales and client services team currently numbers around 35 individuals.

Hughes most recently served as managing director of the financial institutional channel at Morgan Stanley Investment Management. His responsibilities will be taken over by other members of the Morgan Stanley institutional advisor group.

Invesco's U.S. institutional sales, client service and consultant relations chief, Jack Markwalter, praised Hughes as "a recognized leader with years of proven experience."

In a move that further strengthens its ability to market Invesco’s broad range of investment capabilities, Invesco today announced that Thomas J. Hughes has joined its Institutional Sales and Client Service team as managing director. He will be responsible for marketing Invesco’s investment strategies primarily to insurance companies, corporations, endowments and foundations. He joins from Morgan Stanley Investment Management where he was managing director, head of the financial institutions channel. Hughes is based in Boston and reports to Ben Utt.

As part of this ongoing strategy, Invesco added several key professionals in 2008 including Brian Baskir as head of consultant relations and Lance Beck and Michael Mondo as senior sales professionals. The recent addition of Mr. Hughes is a continuation of Invesco’s commitment to strengthen its U.S. Distribution capabilities.

Most recently Mr. Hughes was managing director, head of the financial institutions channel at Morgan Stanley Investment Management. He began his career as a fixed income analyst with Northern Trust and later worked in corporate treasury for Continental Illinois National Bank, including over five years of overseas assignments. Previously he was managing director, BankBoston.

Hughes earned a B.A. in Economics from University of Notre Dame an d an MBA from DePaul University.
