Fidelity is far advanced in plans to further expand business away from its Beantown roots. According to the
Boston Herald, the firm has zeroed in on North Carolina -- specifically the Research Triangle area near Raleigh and Chapel Hill -- as a prime site for a major new hub. It's said the plan could quadruple Fidelity's North Carolina staff, from 1,000 to 4,000, though it's not clear from where the additional numbers would be drawn.
The
Boston Globe first reported last August that Fidelity planned to grow its Smithfield, Rhode Island offices, moving over one thousand of its staff to the location, with many of these coming from downtown Boston. The latest
Herald story cites a warm reception from North Carolina, including tax breaks and incentives, as a key factor in luring Fidelity decision makers south.
