A 30Y Industry Vet Retires From Schwab

Reported by InvestmentWires Staff,

A 30-year industry veteran is saying goodbye after 11 years on the leadership team at Charles Schwab [profile].

Jeffrey Nelson "Jeff" Kleintop
Charles Schwab & Co., Inc.
Former Chief Global Investment Strategist
Jeff Kleintop is retiring from Schwab, MFWire has learned. He served as chief global investment strategist at the Westlake, Texas-based, publicly traded discount brokerage, asset manager, RIA custodian, and retirement plan provider.

New York City-based Liz Ann Sonders, managing director and chief investment strategist at Schwab, did not immediately return an email for comment.

"Until his retirement, Jeff was responsible for analyzing and discussing international markets, trends, and events, whereas Liz Ann covers the US," a Schwab spokesperson writes to MFWire. "The Schwab Center for Financial Research remains strongly positioned with a deep bench of experienced market strategists who are dedicated to helping investors make better decisions through their insights and research."

Kleintop writes in a LinkedIn post that his longtime colleague Michelle Gibley "will continue to deliver international insights." Lone Tree, Colorado-based Gibley serves as director of international research and is a 16-year Schwab veteran.

"I've come to believe the most valuable asset isn't a stock or a bond — it's trust," Kleintop writes in the post:
For those of you who read my articles or followed my insights on social media, thank you for trusting me. It means everything. For those who asked questions — especially the ones that began, 'This may be a dumb question, but ...' — thank you. Those were often the smartest of them all.

Kleintop first joined Schwab in 2014. Before then, he served as chief market strategist at LPL Financial and chief investment strategist at PNC. He is an alumnus of Penn State University.
