Inflows Rise 86 Percent to $32.5B

Reported by Neil Anderson, Managing Editor

Industry inflows rose 86 percent compared with two weeks ago, thanks to jumps in money market and equity fund flows, according to the latest data from the Lipper team at Refinitiv.

In the U.S. Weekly FundFlowsInsight report for the week ending December 1 (i.e. Wednesday), Jack Fischer, senior research analyst at Refinitiv Lipper, reveals that $32.5 billion net flowed into mutual funds and ETFs in the U.S. this week. That's the industry's seventh week of net inflows in a row, up from $17.5 billion two weeks ago. (Refinitiv Lipper did not release a report last week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.)

Money market funds brought in $26.3 billion in net inflows this week, up from $11.9 billion two weeks ago. Equity funds brought in $13 billion in net inflows, up from $465 million in net outflows two weeks ago. And tax-exempt bond funds brought in $36 million in net inflows this week, down from $1.4 billion two weeks ago.

On the flip side, taxable bond funds suffered $6.8 billion in net outflows this week, down from $4.7 billion in net inflows two weeks ago.

Equity ETFs brought in $15.9 billion in net inflows this week, their ninth week in a row of net inflows, up from $1.8 billion two weeks ago. Conventional (i.e. non-ETF) equity funds suffered another $2.8 billion in net outflows this week; it was their eight week of outflows in a row, up from $2.2 billion two weeks ago.

Within conventional equity funds, domestic equity funds suffered $3.5 billion in net outflows this week, their 23rd week in a row of net outflows, up from $2.7 billion two weeks ago. And conventional non-domestic equity funds brought in $669 million in net inflows this week, their fourth week in a row of net inflows, up from $437 million two weeks ago.

On the fixed income side, ETFs suffered $1.6 billion in net outflows this week, their first outflows in eight weeks. And conventional bond funds suffered $5.3 billion in net outflows this week, their largest weekly net outflows since April 2020.
