A veteran fundster is running for public office in her old firm's hometown.

Mary John Miller Johns Hopkins University Senior Fellow, 21st Century Cities Initiative

Democrat Mary Miller, former head of fixed income of T. Rowe Price, has thrown her hat into the mayoral race in Baltimore, the Baltimore Sun, a local CBS station, and other news outlets report. She officially kicked off her campaign Tuesday afternoon at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, where she once served on the board.

"There's a lack of leadership and vision for Baltimore," Miller tells the Sun. "There's such a crying need for management in Baltimore."

She adds that she is "fiscally conservative" and "socially liberal."

Miller spent 26 years in T. Rowe's fixed income division (including five as its chief) until leaving 10 years ago when President Barack Obama picked her as Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Treasury. She rose to Undersecretary and then to acting Deputy Secretary. While there, she was involved in money market fund reform efforts in that administration, and she took herself out of the running for taking over the SEC. She left the administration in 2014.

Miller is an alumna of Cornell University. She currently serves as senior fellow of Johns Hopkins University's 21st Century Cities Initiative. Though she grew up in Ithaca, New York, she has spent 33 years in Baltimore.

The Democratic primary is scheduled for April 28, and a host of other Democrats are also running for mayor.
