No, you haven't seen
Morningstar's new CEO in your favorite Bollywood movies.
| Kunal Kapoor M* Chief Executive Officer | |
Kunal Kapoor, who
succeeded M* founder
Joe Mansueto in January and happens to have the same name as a
famous actor in India, gave an
interview to Crain's Chicago Business' Lynne Marek, even as Kapoor and his team prepare for their flagship
Morningstar Investment Conference next week in Chicago.
The interview offers tidbits from both Kapoor's business and his personal life, as well as Kapoor's relationship with Mansueto. Kapoor confirms that, though he still meets every week with Mansueto (M*'s founder and majority shareholder) and gets his counsel "on key topics," Kapoor is the one "making the decisions."
"He's been amazing in terms of giving me the room to do what I need to do to establish myself and get going," Kapoor tells the paper. "Joe is terrific on many levels, but he's a great mentor as well. You never want to disappoint, and you always want to deliver. You want to help preserve and grow what he's built."
In the interview Kapoor also reveals where he went on his honeymoon (Bali), where he'd like to go on his next six-week M* sabbatical (on a safari in Africa), how he felt when Mansueto promoted him (happy, surprised, excited, and ready for the challenge), and what he misses most about his native India ("It's a crazy melting pot").
