Gabelli Asset Management Company has tapped Christopher C. Desmarais, 31, as director of its socially responsible investments division. He takes the title of senior vice president and director of the group that manages some $500 million of assets. Desmarais has worked in the group at Gabelli since 1993.

"Chris will be responsible for the sales, marketing and screening process for all SRI activity," said Mario Gabelli, CEO. "He will also continue his management role in various other areas of our separate accounts business."

Gabelli added the assets managed under social screens by the firm have grown by more than 50 percent during the past three years. The firm is targeting the foundation and endowment market and religious organizations with separate account products based on custom social screens.
