American Beacon Launches American Beacon Earnest Partners Emerging Markets Equity Fund
Fund Seeks to Provide Diversification Across Emerging Markets While Mitigating Downside Risk and Volatility
FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept. 19, 2013 -- American Beacon Advisors ("American Beacon"), an experienced provider of investment advisory services to retail and institutional clients, today announced the launch of the American Beacon Earnest Partners Emerging Markets Equity Fund. The Fund commenced operations on September 19, 2013, offering five classes of shares: ABEEX (Institutional Class), ABEVX (Investor Class), ABEGX (Y Class), ABEAX (A Class) and ABETX (C Class).
The Fund's sub-advisor is EARNEST Partners, an Atlanta-based registered investment advisor with $21 billion in assets under management as of June 30, 2013. The Fund's primary goal is to achieve long-term capital appreciation by investing in equity securities of companies based in emerging markets. Diversified across emerging market currencies, regions and countries, the Fund uses a fundamental, bottom-up investment process. It seeks to outperform the MSCI Emerging Markets Index while mitigating downside risk and volatility.
"The launch of this fund exemplifies American Beacon's commitment to seeking long-term outperformance for our investors by selecting sub-advisors we consider to be the 'best of the best,'" said Gene L. Needles Jr., American Beacon President and Chief Executive Officer. "We believe that EARNEST Partners' well-designed core investment strategy should provide our investors with diversified and risk-managed exposure to emerging markets at a time when active management is critical to capitalizing on the growth opportunities and identifying the business challenges inherent in emerging markets."
EARNEST Partners is completely employee-owned and has more than 14 years of experience successfully investing in emerging market equities. The firm's Emerging Markets strategy has been recognized by Pensions & Investments for its performance in the asset class over the last five years.
In selecting securities for the Fund, EARNEST Partners will rely on its longstanding three-step process. First, the investment team screens the universe of securities using the firm's internally developed Return Pattern Recognition® system. The Return Pattern Recognition® screen seeks to identify securities that the firm believes are poised to outperform by looking at existing industry-specific characteristics and comparing those to characteristics in place during prior periods of outperformance. Next, securities passing the initial screen are subject to EARNEST Partners' rigorous fundamental analysis process whereby it seeks to identify the best companies with a sustainable, long-term edge over competitors. Lastly, the portfolio is constructed to attempt to mitigate the likelihood of significantly underperforming the benchmark by using a risk management process that focuses on downside deviation.
"EARNEST Partners has invested in emerging markets for over 14 years," said Trey Greer, a Partner at EARNEST Partners. "We are now positioned to deliver diversification and long-term capital appreciation across emerging markets to a wider range of investors."
