Which Funds Did Well With The Bear and The Bull?

News summary by MFWire's editors

Experiencing a round trip from the bear market to bull market may be painful, but according to John Waggoner of USA Today, it gives investors a chance to look at how their funds did both good and bad markets.

In theory, he writes, " those mutual funds that you pay good money for should do well in both good markets and bad. In reality, few do."

Some funds that passed muster with him during the full market cycle include: Managers' AMG Yacktman Focus fund, up 77 percent for the round trip through both markets; John Hancock U.S. Global Leaders Growth which had a 35 percent gain through the cycle, and the ING Corporate Leaders fund, which Waggoner writes fell "50 percent in the bear market but snapping back 161 percent in the bull market. Total round-trip ticket: 30 percent."
