It almost seemed like a foregone conclusion at this point; SEC chairwoman Mary Schapiro would be exiting the agency following the election in November, regardless of who wins.
Maybe everyone
jumped to conclusions, though.
Schapiro spoke at the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association conference Tuesday where she seemed to make it clear she wasn't bolting for the door, reported Sarah N. Lynch and Jonathan Spicer in
Reuters.
"I love what I do. I love the Agency. I haven't really thought about behind my term, which ends in June 2014," Schapiro said.
The idea that Schapiro would be leaving the SEC has been floating for some time. Last week, a
Bloomberg article seemed to indicate it was a done deal. The
MFWire has
noted several other times that the top regulator departure was a
possibility.
