Do mutual fund firms' shares make good investments? According to
MarketWatch columnist
Robert Powell, the answer is yes in a few cases and no for others. His reasoning stems from the fact that “assets under management are rising at some, but not all firms.” He emphasizes that money is also circulating into some of the firms, “but not all.”
On Powell's "yes" list are
BlackRock,
Calamos,
Franklin Resources and
T. Rowe Price, with a special mention for possible "diamond in the rough"
Legg Mason. On the "mostly neutral to bearish" side, he points to
AllianceBernstein and
Janus.
