A Dimensional Vet Sets Up Shop in LA

by: Erin Kello

A Dimensional Fund Advisors veteran has opened a new mutual fund shop. Glenn Freed, formerly a vice president with DFA, launched Vericimetry Advisors last year [website]. Freed is chief executive officer and chief investment officer of Vericimetry.

The Los Angeles-based shop has released one offering, the Vericimetry U.S. Small Cap Value Fund (VYSVX).

Vericimetry tapped UMB Fund Services to provide accounting, administration, transfer agency, statutory distribution and fulfillment services for the new fund. In addition, custody is handled by UMB Bank

Company Press Release

UMB Fund Services, Inc. (UMBFS) announced that it has been selected to provide services to Vericimetry Funds’ initial mutual fund, the Vericimetry U.S. Small Cap Value Fund

UMBFS will provide accounting, administration, transfer agency, statutory distribution and fulfillment services for the fund. In addition, custody services will be provided by UMBFS’ affiliate, UMB Bank, n.a.

“As we conducted our search for a service provider, the compelling factor that drew us to UMB was their experience helping emerging managers with their fund launches,” said Carlos Elizondo, chief operating officer for Vericimetry Advisors, the SEC-registered investment adviser to the Vericimetry Funds. “Not only was UMB able to guide us through the process, but we connected well with their people. We especially appreciated having direct access to their service-line leaders and senior executives.”

Headquartered in Los Angeles, Vericimetry Advisors was founded in 2011 by a core group of seasoned investment management professionals. Its chief executive officer, Dr. Glenn Freed, is an academic with demonstrated experience in the financial services industry. As a former executive with Dimensional Fund Advisors, he delivered customized quantitative investment solutions to both the financial advisory and the institutional markets for much of the prior decade.

“In forming Vericimetry, we sought to forge new ground into quantitatively structured investment strategies,” said Dr. Freed. “We assembled a team with extensive money management experience and rooted in academia, whose collective educational and collaborative approach serves an exclusive group of elite financial advisors. Our first strategy seeks to deliver the small cap and value equity risk premiums. As we continue to introduce new strategies, UMB Fund Services is well-equipped to be a partner we can grow with into the future.”

“We’re pleased that Vericimetry has chosen UMBFS as its service provider,” said John Zader, chief executive officer of UMBFS. “Our capabilities and expertise will be an excellent fit with their needs, and we look forward to partnering with them as they seek to build assets and grow their business.”
