Henderson Global Investors [profile] is preparing to say goodbye to the lead PM of a $2.9-billion, four-star mutual fund. Today the Chicago-based mutual fund firm revealed that Iain Clark is stepping down from daily management operations of the International Opportunities Fund on April 2, while sticking around through the end of the year to help with the transition. International equities director Stephen Peak, who's served on the fund's PM team since launch more than a decade ago, will take over as lead PM.
According to Morningstar, Henderson boasts about $5.8 billion in non-money-market mutual fund assets. International Opportunities holds about half of those assets. It incorporate five PM teams targeting different sectors or geographical areas.
Bill McQuaker will continue to serve as asset allocation strategist for the fund.
Clark praised McQuaker and Peak as "two of the best investment minds at Henderson." And Henderson Group CEO Andrew Formica lauded Clark's "significant contributions over his distinguished career at Henderson."
Henderson's London-based global parent had $99.9 billion in assets as of December 31.

Stephen Peak Named Lead Portfolio Manager of Henderson International Opportunities Fund
CHICAGO, March 16, 2012 -- Henderson Global Investors (North America) Inc. announced that effective April 2, 2012, Iain Clark is stepping down from the daily management and operations of the International Opportunities Fund (tickers:HFOAX)(tickers:HFOBX)(tickers:HFOCX)(tickers:HFOIX)(tickers:HFORX). He will remain as an advisor to the Fund through year-end 2012 to provide historical reference and guidance and to effect an orderly transition.
Stephen Peak, Director of International Equities at Henderson Global Investors and a member of the portfolio management team of the International Opportunities Fund since its inception in August 2001, will become the Lead Portfolio Manager of the Fund effective April 2. He is also the Lead Portfolio Manager for the Henderson European Focus Fund (HFEAX, HFEBX, HFECX, HFEIX).
Bill McQuaker, who has been an Asset Allocation Strategist on the International Opportunities Fund with Iain Clark since 2006, will continue as the Asset Allocation Strategist of the Fund.

The International Opportunities Fund is one of Henderson's largest retail funds, with $2.6 billion in assets as of December 31, 2011. The Fund uses a multi-manager approach, with five portfolio management teams focused on specific areas of sector or geographical expertise. Between them, the Fund's portfolio managers have an average of 23 years of investment management experience and manage over $18 billion in assets for Henderson Global Investors.

Mr. Peak, Director of International Equities, joined Henderson in 1992. He has over 37 years of experience in investment management and research and a broad range of investment experience within the American, European, Japanese and Far East markets. He previously served as Fund Manager at Norwich Union Insurance Group, Global Equity Fund Manager at ADIG Investments, Overseas Fund Manager at Cornhill Insurance Group, and Director and Head of the Investment Department at Touche Remnant & Co. before it was acquired by Henderson Global Investors in 1992.
Mr. McQuaker, Head of Multi-Asset, has more than 26 years of experience in the investment management industry and is responsible for equity assets covering all regions. He is Henderson's resident asset allocation expert, directing the Henderson Multi-Asset lineup as well as various hedge and institutional funds. McQuaker was recently awarded the Multi-Asset Manager of the Year Award by The UK Pensions Awards 2011 (run by Professional Pensions). He will continue to oversee the International Opportunities Fund's strategic allocation of its assets among countries, regions and sectors.
