The SEC has brought on board a former
ProFunds Advisors [profile] attorney to help with ETF matters.
Barry Pershkow joined the commission this month as senior special counsel in the investment management division,
Reuters reports.
Most recently, Pershkow was with law firm Morgan, Lewis and Bockius. Before that, he was ProFund Advisors, whose ProShares unit is the largest provider of leveraged and inverse ETFs.
Pershkow's hiring comes amid an SEC review of ETFs aimed at making sure they are not triggering market volatility.
The May 6, 2010 "flash crash" has regulators looking at whether ETFs, particularly leveraged and inverse ETFs, are contributing to market volatility.
Reuters also notes that Pershkow will likely also help with the SEC's review of the use of derivatives by mutual funds and ETFs.
