The quants in the mutual fund world are doing better.
Morningstar analyst Greg Carlson
attributes the improvement in the performance of the sixty-or-so quant mutual funds to the possibility that the models these funds use had ample time to catch up with the market.
Ironically, he also thinks they may have been helped by their very unpopularity with mutual fund investors. With shareholders pulling dollars out of quant mutual funds, there were fewer dollars going into the stocks those funds like. So, they were able to by their stocks at better prices.
Bridgeway's John Montgomery is one PM whose rebounding performance is singled out in the article.
