Deal Brings Stadion into Private Equity Hands

Private equity firm TA Associates has wrapped up its acquisition of a majority stake in Stadion Money Management [see profile]. Boston-based TA now has a 54.4 percent stake in Watkinsville, Georgia-headquartered Stadion, which runs two mutual funds and offers separate account services and retirement account investment advisory services.

The transaction, first announced in April, closed on June 30. Terms were not made public.

TA principal Roy Burns and managing director Roger Kafker have joined Stadion's board.

In the mutual fund space, TA also owns stakes in First Eagle Investment Management and Keeley Asset Management.

The Boston Globe picked up up on the news of the completion of the transaction.

TA Associates Completes Investment in Stadion Money Management

BOSTON--TA Associates, a leading growth private equity firm, today announced it has completed an investment in Stadion Money Management, LLC, a rapidly growing investment management firm. The transaction closed on June 30, 2011. A definitive agreement was announced on April 26 of this year. Terms of the investment were not disclosed.

In connection with the investment, M. Roy Burns, a Principal at TA Associates, and Roger B. Kafker, a Managing Director at TA Associates, joined the company's Board of Directors. Goodwin Procter LLP provided legal counsel and Deloitte LLP provided accounting services to TA Associates. Chamberlain, Hrdlicka, White, Williams & Martin LLP served as legal counsel and Silver Lane Advisors provided financial advisory services to Stadion Money Management.
