Derek Koffel has been named regional marketing director for non-wire mutual fund sales in Oregon and Southern Washington for The Hartford [see profile] , The MFWire has learned. He was previously an internal mutual funds wholesaler. He reports to Kirt Jones, divisional vice president for non-wire mutual fund sales in the Western U.S.

The insurer is reportedly looking for a buyer for its U.S. mutual fund unit, which works with about $104 billion (as of March 31, 2011) in 51 funds and boasted net income of $132 million last year. A company spokesperson was not immediately available to comment on the new hire or reports of the firm selling off its mutual funds unit.
