What were 2010's biggest 10? And we're not talking about Bo Derek.
Stories about weddings, divorces, births and deaths are typically
among the most-read stories each year, and 2010 is no exception. (Speaking of weddings, congratulations are in order for
Putnam Investments'
chief investment officer, who
got married earlier this month).
This year, wedding bells rang for
BNY Mellon Asset Servicing and PNC Global Investment Servicing,
Nuveen Investments and FAF Advisors' long-term asset management business,
Federated Investors and SunTrust's money market mutual fund business and
Eaton Vance and Managed ETFs LLC.
Then there are the divorces: there's the
amicable divorce between
Pimco and
Allianz Global Investors Distributors on the distribution front and the (
still ongoing) bickering between
TCW and
Jeff Gundlach in the wake of their December 2009 breakup.
Which leads us to the topic of births. Gundlach set up his own firm in December 2009 and in April of this year,
launched his first batch of mutual funds.
2010 also saw the passing of Fidelity's
Victor Thay (35), Integrity Viking Funds'
Robert Loest (66), Van Eck Associates chief investment officer
Derek van Eck (46) and Neuberger Berman co-founder
Roy Neuberger (107).
