A year after Jack Brennan handed the reins at Vanguard [see profile] to Bill McNabb, sales at the firm are exploding. This year Vanguard also passed Fidelity as the largest advisor to mutual fund assets.

While McNabb is following Jack Bogle's simple playbook of stressing low fees and relying on index funds, McNabb is continuing to execute without adding complications that could derail success. This year McNabb also reversed a course set by Brennan and readded funds based on indices from S&P while broadening Vanguard's ETF line.
