John Amboian Nuveen Investments Chairman & CEO

Backed by private equity, Nuveen Investments [see profile] is wrapping up its purchase of FAF Advisors' long-term asset management business. When the deal is done Nuveen will have roughly $175 billion in AUM.

That John Amboian is brewing up good things at the Chicago-based fund firm and knows a thing or two about distribution should not surprise. Before joining Nuveen in 1995, he was CFO of Miller Brewing.
