The Hartford Demonstrates Its Commitment to Mutual Fund Business; Appoints Jeff Reiss as Head of Sales

In a newly expanded role, Reiss will lead a specialized sales organization to help drive growth of U.S. mutual funds and 529 college savings plans

Simsbury, Conn., Sept. 9, 2010 – The Hartford Mutual Funds today announced that Jeff Reiss has been named national sales manager, effective immediately. In this newly created role, he will oversee all sales initiatives of U.S. mutual funds and 529 college savings plans across the wirehouse, registered investment advisor, independent and bank channels. Reiss, who was previously national sales manager for the wirehouse division, will report to Jim Davey, executive vice president of The Hartford Mutual Funds.

"Aligning mutual fund sales under Jeff's leadership renews our commitment to accelerate growth of the fund family and expand market share across all channels," says Davey. "We are very proud that The Hartford Mutual Funds has had positive net flows every year since inception of the fund family in 1996, and a large part of that is attributable to success in the wirehouse channel under Jeff's direction over the years."

Reiss' appointment is part of a broader strategy, recently announced, to align The Hartford's Wealth Management business around four core segments – mutual funds, global annuities, retirement plans and individual life insurance.

The Hartford Mutual Funds, which launched The Hartford Global Real Asset 1,2 and Global All-Asset 1 funds earlier this year, is committed to helping investors meet their long-term financial goals. Product innovation continues to be a critical part of the fund family's growth strategy, and gives the sales team a unique value proposition when communicating with financial advisors, according to Davey.

Reiss was appointed national sales manager for the wirehouse division in 2008. He joined the firm as a sales coordinator in 1995. In 1996, he became a regional marketing director in the bank channel and was named Rookie of the Year. He subsequently held positions of increasing responsibility including divisional sales manager for a five-state region, and head of east coast sales for mutual funds in the wirehouse channel.

Reiss earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pa. He holds his FINRA Series 6, 24 and 63 licenses, as well as his life insurance licensing. In 2010, Reiss was named a Rising Star of Mutual Funds by Institutional Investor News and Fund Action.
