Profitability in the industry is now back up to 30 percent, from about 18 percent in the first quarter of 2009, Kasina CEO Steve Miyao told Nicsa conference attendees Monday morning at the Doral Golf & Spa in Florida.

Miyao was part of a five-person panel that kicked off the first full day of sessions at Nicsa' 28th Annual Conference & Expo.

This year's conference drew more than 500 attendees.

Miyao's fellow panelists included John Calamos, chairman, CEO and co-CIO of Calamos Investments, Brian Gaffney, CEO of Allianz Global Investors Distributors, Julie Monaco, managing director, North America head of global transaction services at Citi, and Michael Roland, chief operating officer at ING Funds.
