Eric Colson has taken the reins at Artisan Partners. Colson, the firm's COO for investment operations, took over as CEO from Andy Ziegler, who now serves as executive chairman.

Ziegler, who founded Artisan in 1994 with his wife Carlene, informed Artisan clients of the CEO change in a letter on December 31 (see the full letter below). Yet, in an SEC filing made on January 13, Ziegler remained listed as the company's president and CEO. And, in a press release issued the same day regarding Artisan's plans to launch a new global equity strategy, Colson was quoted as the firm's CEO.

Colson joined Artisan as managing director in early 2005 from Callan Associates, where he served as manager of the institutional consulting group.

Over the years he has created significant value for the firm and our clients. He understands our business thoroughly and I am confident he will do a terrific job as CEO.
