In The Wall Street Journal's
Fund Track column today, Nat Worden tracks the decade long journey of tech ETFs, noting their recent success. Worden applauds funds like the
Select Sector SPDR Technology Select fund, which earned twice as much as the Standard & Poor's 500-stock index average thanks to its transparency and simplicity.
"This is about buying solid, dependable, well-established companies with steady cash flows that often pay dividends and trade at reasonable multiples," said
Dan Dolan, product manager for the Select Sector SPDRs line of ETFs at ALPS Distributors. "Tech is also a cyclical sector that is bound to grow as the economy rebounds and companies start investing again."
