Fidelity plans to carry out a staff shuffle early next year, Fidelity spokeswoman Anne Crowley confirmed to
The MFWire. The move will affect primarily workers in its personal and workplace investing unit, which is led by
Abby Johnson.
When the shuffle is complete, employee headcount in Boston and Smithfield, Rhode Island will each grow by 500. The number of workers in Fidelity's Marlborough campus will go down by 950. As for its Merrimack, New Hampshire location, which houses a little less than 5,000 workers, the headcount will remain essentially the same.
The move is aimed at ensuring that employees with shared accountabilities and natural synergies are situated close to each other, according to Crowley.
"The move will largely take place in the first quarter of 2010," she said.
Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the number of workers in Fidelity's Merrimack location would go down by 950.
