Is
Larry Fink moving to Merrill? With
Stan O'Neal reportedly out as
Merrill Lynch CEO, Fink's name has cropped up among the possible successors to O'Neal, who was reportedly negotiating the terms of his departure yesterday afternoon. A report in Monday's
Wall Street Journal labeled Fink, whose firm is 49 percent owned by Merrill, "a top contender" to succeed O'Neal. Fink is said to be close to Merrill co-president
Greg Fleming, who is himself a possible candidate for the job. There could be a power-sharing arrangement between Fink and Fleming, the report stated. Other names that have emerged to succeed O'Neal in the C-suite include NYSE Euronext CEO
John Thain and
Bob McCann, who runs Merrill's brokerage unit.
