Hours after Merrill Lynch officially announced chairman and CEO Stan O'Neal's departure, BlackRock issued a news release saying that O'Neal has resigned from its board of directors. New York-based BlackRock is 49 percent owned by Merrill Lynch. Incidentally, BlackRock founder and CEO Larry Fink is rumored to be a top contender to succeed O'Neal at Merrill.
