Gartmore Hires Sales Director for Alternatives

John Early has signed on with Gartmore as a vice president of U.S. Institutional and Alternative Investment Sales. He will focus on selling alternative investment solutions to endowments and foundations, family offices and funds of funds, according to the company. The post is newly created.

Early reports to Charles Beazley, Gartmore's head of Global Institutional and Alternative Investments.

His hiring follows hard on the heels of the hiring of Vivina Berla, a former managing director of Alternative Investments at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. Berla joined Gartmore as head of EMEA Global Institutional and Alternative Investments in February.

At the same time, Gartmore named Angus Woolhouse as head of U.K. Institutional Investments responsible for developing Gartmore's institutional business to U.K. corporations, insurance companies and local municipalities.

Prior to joining Gartmore, Early was vice president of Marketing/Client Services at Andor Capital Management, a long/short equity hedge fund manager that he joined in 2001. He previously managed marketing and client service for Pequot Capital Management and from 1993 through 2000 held various marketing and sales positions at Florida-based John W. Henry & Co.
