Schwab Looks to Bank on Equity Ratings

Charles Schwab Investment Management, capitalizing on the success of stock picks in its model equity portfolio, is launching a new fund based on the number one-rated portfolio.

The new Schwab Premier Equity Fund's managers will use the same methodology to pick stocks for the fund as is used to select stocks for Schwab's entries into Barron's annual portfolio competitions.

"Last year's #1 rating from Barron's generated investor interest in a fund that would use Schwab Equity Ratings to capture strongly-rated stocks in one investment … This year's win reinforces our decision to offer the Premier Equity Fund," said Evelyn Dilsaver, president and CEO of Charles Schwab Investment Management, Inc.

The fund will be co-managed by Jeffrey Mortimer, senior vice president and senior portfolio manager; Vivienne Hsu, vice president and senior portfolio manager; and Larry Mano, director and portfolio manager.
