Columbia Plans Liquidation of Small Funds


The board of trustees of the Columbia Funds family has voted to liquidate five funds. The funds, totaling approximately $25.6 million in assets, will be liquidated on or about December 10.

Most shareholders of Columbia's Europe Fund, European Thematic Equity Fund, Global Thematic Equity Fund Newport Asia Pacific Fund and Tax Managed Aggressive Growth Fund will not be able to invest in the funds after November 10, and will receive the liquidated assets after December 10.

The Columbia board also voted to merge seven funds, pending shareholder approval.

The trustees voted to merge the International Equity Fund into the International Stock Fund, the Corporate Bond Fund and the Contrarian Income Fund into the Quality Plus Bond Fund, and the Growth Fund into the Large Cap Growth Fund.

If shareholders of the funds approve the mergers at a meeting on February 16, the mergers will on or about February 26.
