ICON Targets Institutional Biz with Sales Hire


ICON Advisers is trying to grow its institutional business with a new sales hire. Stephen Cheek joined ICON on Monday as director of institutional sales, a newly created position.

Although the Greenwood Village, Colorado-based adviser has served institutional clients since 1999, ICON is now targeting the business, said spokeswoman Cynthia Crossland.

Cheek will work with a team of two -- one institutional sales manager and one client services manager -- to target corporate and public pension plans, endowments, foundations and defined contribution plans.

Cheek reports directly to President and Chief Investment Officer Craig Callahan.

Prior to joining ICON, Cheek was director of institutional sales at The Hartford Life Insurance Company.

Earlier this year, ICON hired eight internal wholesalers to work in tandem with their eight external wholesalers.
